Conduct research and support on-going research efforts in secondary science education. Because the successful candidate will need to conduct advanced quantitative research (SEM, HLM, IRT, non-linear methods, etc.) and qualitative analysis of data from secondary science classroom, experience and proficiency in these areas is necessary. The successful candidtate will also engage in designing, developing, and testing new curriculum materials that align with new standards for secondary chemistry and physics classroom. As such, experience in this are is highly desirable. Seek external funding to support on-going research programs. Publish research manuscripts in top - tiered education and science education journals. Present research papers at major educational research conferences. Guide and mentor graduate students and first-year postdocs in science education in planning and conducting research. Work collaboratively with other faculty and postdocs to conduct research and seek external funding to support research. Provide leadership in various projects.
Doctorate -Science Education
Requires Ph.D. in Science Education with a strong background in interdisciplinary science demonstrated by graduate course work in biology + neuroscience or cognitive psychology; graduate-level academic experience conducting advanced quantitative statistical methods (SEM, HLM, IRT, non-linear methods); and 1 year of experience teaching secondary or post-secondary physics and chemistry and assisting teachers with professional development (pedagogical skills).
